How to Staff: Teenagers and Part Seasonal Personnel

Finding the right people, and finding them fast. Its possible, but one has to win out over the other.

 

Lets assume “the right people” is your first priority. Here are a few tips for hiring.

 

Always be hiring: Yes, always. When you meet that perfect candidate who happens to be browsing in your store in August, let them know you’ll be hiring over Christmas. Get their number and call them by Mid-October!

 

Put flyers in every bag. Clients who love you, may want to work with you. And so might their kids, and their friends etc.

 

Use a hiring process. Use the hiring system that your franchise provided you. They’ve been through the same challenges you’re facing right now, so use what they’ve shown you!

 

Don’t be afraid to say NO! Use the interview to ask really good questions and think hard about whether this person will represent you and your store the way you want.

 

Invest in Training. Be excellent at training your people. I understand that McDonalds targets a 300% staff turnover annually! That means they have to become top-class at hiring and training.

 

Love what you do. Your team takes their cue from you. Show them how much you love the business and your customers and they’ll follow suit!

 

Hiring the right people for your company is critical. A big part of your customers experience is based on how your people interact with them. Why ruin all your hard work with something so manageable.
